I’m one of those people who have vivid dreams. My dreams are always in Technicolor and are wide screen. If they were television, they would be in High definition. They seem to go on and on and some might actually make decent movie plots. Most nights I doze off thinking, “let the show begin!” My dreams are sometimes action packed, some feature day-to-day scenarios, while thankfully a very few are nightmares where I wake up in a full panic mode. Never a dull moment to say the least! Many mornings I wake up more tired than when I go to sleep but one thing all of my dreams have in common is that I’m usually a much younger man than I am in real life. I’d have to say that my average age in the dream state is 25-30 years old. I can still run pretty fast, I never get tired and in my favorite dreams I can even fly! But when I wake up each morning after the nights entertainment, I’m faced with the hard realization that I’m a 65 year old man who is not only much slower than I used to be, but I have less stamina for hard work. Oh, and to my total disappointment, I can’t fly except in an airplane.
That brings me to today’s topic, which is that after one year and four months in this wonderful North Carolina house with the amazing ¾ acre fully landscaped lot, we find it necessary to move on to a less labor intensive home. The problem is the landscaping. It takes much of our spare time to maintain it in a somewhat presentable state and it would take all of our spare time to maintain it in a pristine state. To be honest, we don’t enjoy gardening that much, especially in the hot North Carolina summers where the humidity can have us soaking wet in a matter of minutes. It totally wears me out to have to deal with the yard on a daily basis. Like I said, old age is creeping up on me.
So the house was recently put on the market where it sold in less than 60 days. We were both surprised and pleased that it sold so fast given the current national housing market, but this is a wonderful home except for the excessive yard maintenance. As I write this, the house is no longer ours having closed last week. We’re allowed to stay here until the 15th of the month when we have to be out and moved into out new digs. We will miss this place and we’re even starting to experience some seller’s remorse, but it’s for the best.
Our new home is a house with an attached two-car garage located about 7 miles to the south, in the town of Aberdeen, North Carolina. Aberdeen and the surrounding area feel about the same as it does here, but the new house is located in a subdivision and has a small fraction of the yard work.
I figured it out and Margo and I have moved six times since 2000 and our belongings have covered almost 6900 miles in the process. That doesn’t count the number of times that we’ve moved our belongings in and out of storage as part of our full-time Rving adventure. At this point we need a rest both from yard work and from moving. We need to settle down and find a real home. We’re hoping that this will be it.
